King’s Island (USA)

 

Kings Island is a 364-acre amusement park located 24 miles northeast of Cincinnati in Mason, Ohio. Opened in 1972 by Taft Broadcasting Company and now owned by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, Kings Island is the most visited seasonal amusement park in the U.S. with an estimated 3.1 million visitors in 2010.

Originally part of a 1,600-acre purchase, Kings Island currently owns 773 acres of land. It offers over 80 rides, shows, and attractions including 14 roller coasters and a 15-acre water park. Kings Island has won Amusement Today's Golden Ticket Award for having the "Best Kids' Area" in the world for eleven consecutive years (2001–2011).

The central attraction at Kings Island is International Street featuring the Royal Fountain, a 600,000-US-gallon pool capable of shooting 10,000 US gallons of water into the air each minute, and the signature Eiffel Tower, a 1/3 scale replica of the original which offers a view of the entire park to its guests. Also located here is the Grand Carousel, Kings Island Theater, and a variety of restaurants and souvenir shops.

Another original attraction is The Racer, a wooden roller coaster consisting of two trains that race each other side-by-side on identical tracks. Designed by legendary designer John C. Allen, The Racer is recognized as being an integral part of the roller coaster renaissance of the 1970s. On June 18, 2007 American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) awarded it the Roller Coaster Landmark plaque.

Other roller coasters present at the opening in 1972 were the Bavarian Beetle, a small steel coaster brought over from Coney Island, and a new junior wooden coaster in the Happy Land of Hanna-Barbera originally named Scooby-Doo.

Additional attractions present on opening day were Haley's Comet, Kings Mill Log Flume, Les Taxis, Grand Carousel, Der Spinning Keggers, Sky Ride, Enchanted Voyage, Marathon Turnpike, Scrambler, Flying Scooters, Winnie Witch's Spinning Cauldrons, Kings Island and Miami Valley Railroad, Monster, and The Rotor.

Kings Island is an enormously popular theme park. Coasters are king here, and the legendary The Beast, the world's longest wood coaster, is thrill machine royalty. Diamondback, introduced in 2009, is a world-class hypercoaster and among the best steel coasters in North America.

The Peanuts characters, such as Charlie Brown and Linus, come to life in Planet Snoopy and provide inspiration for some of the rides, including Sally's Sea Plane, The Great Pumpkin Coaster, and Woodstock Express. The park offers shows as well, including musicals and fireworks.

Circus Circus-Adventuredome (USA)

Adventuredome is a 5-acre indoor amusement park (formerly known as Grand Slam Canyon) located at Circus Circus in Winchester, Nevada on the Las Vegas Strip. The park offers 25 rides and attractions and is connected to the hotel via The Promenade. The Adventuredome opened in 1993 in the west parking lot of the hotel. It sits on a reinforced 18" thick deck elevated 18 feet above ground. The dome itself consists of over 350,000 sq ft. of pink tinted, insulated glass over a teal green space frame. Each pane of glass weighs approximately 300 lb.

Great for kids and the kids-at-heart, the Adverturedome inside Circus Circus proves you can go crazy in Vegas without the wild nightlife scene.  The five-and-a-half-acre Adventuredome is America's largest indoor theme park and features thrill rides, traditional carnival rides, laser tag, miniature golf, bumper cars, midway booths, an arcade, clown shows and so much more. The natural lighting, high ceilings and canyon fixtures throughout the property gives you the feel of the outdoors, so you don't feel claustrophobic in the least bit. 

Adventuredome offers enough thrill rides to keep you busy all afternoon. The Sling Shot shoots up like a rocket launch at a shocking 4 G force, while the Canyon Blaster takes you on a dashing 55-mile-per-hour roller coaster ride complete with a double-loop and double-corkscrew track. 

If you're ready to take a "spin" on the fun side, adventure seekers and music lovers alike can enjoy the excitement of Disk 'O, which moves at an astounding 14 rotations per minute on its 100-foot roller coaster track. You'll find yourself spinning and twirling in different directions the entire time.

The Inverter flips you at a full 360 degrees and leaves you hanging upside down, while Chaos spins you upside-down, backward and counterclockwise. Once you're ready to cool down from all the rides, the refreshing Rim Runner gives you the splash of your life.   Even if you're not bringing the kids, the 4-D Special FX Theatre features bubbles, water squirts and special effects that will have you giggling in your chair like a 4-year-old. 

The Drifter Ferris wheel is a romantic ride if you're bringing a date, but seats up to four people if you're with friends or family. There is a merry-go-round right next to it. 

But the Adventuredome isn't just about the rides: The prizes at the midway booths have gone up a notch since we were kids. Sure, you can still win the typical oversized teddy bear or plush banana, but other prizes include Hello Kitty and Angry Bird dolls, as well as other popular icons. Come prepared with plenty of one dollar bills. 

One thing you must do before leaving is the Adventuredome's Lazer Tag. Put your "Call of Duty" skills to the test, strap on your vest and let the fun begin. There are plenty of dark corners and hallways to hide in and get your opponents. See your score just outside the exit. 

Vendor booths offer personal designed T-shirts, caricature drawings ($5 a person) and all sorts of novelty items. There are also photo booths scattered around the attraction. There's even a trampoline jump for the kids, too. 

And of course, the attraction comes complete with all your favorite foods like funnel cake, soft pretzels, nachos and lemonade. The Adventuredome also offers a cocktail stand for adults.

Every Halloween, Adventuredome transforms into Frightdome, a scarefest which lasts through the month of October. Experience a handful of haunted houses and watch out for all the scary ghosts and goblins lurking throughout the area. 

You can easily spend the whole day here. Whether you bring the kids or you're going on a date (you can cling on to each other after all the scary rides!), there's really no age limit here. Seagaia Ocean Dome (Japan)

The Seagaia Ocean Dome was the world's largest indoor waterpark, located in Miyazaki, Japan. The Ocean Dome, which was a part of the Sheraton Seagaia Resort, measured 300 metres in length and 100 metres in width, and was listed on the Guinness World Records. It opened in 1993, and visitor numbers peaked in 1995 at 1.25 million a year. Entrance cost was ¥2600 per adult and ¥1600 for children (roughly 30 and 20 USD in 1995 respectively) Japanese yen, depending on the season. The roof of the structure was retractable in four sections.

The Ocean Dome sported a fake flame-spitting volcano, artificial sand and the world's largest retractable roof, which provided a permanently blue sky even on a rainy day. The air temperature was always held at around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) and the water at around 28 (82 degrees Fahrenheit).

There are quite a few differences between the Ocean Dome and the ocean, among them the heated indoor pool, the kids’ pool, the floating pool, and the three fast and thrilling water slides. Everyone feels like a child when playing in the water.

Within the dome, there are shops where you can rent the latest in swimsuit fashions or whet your appetite with drinks, fast food, light snacks, or full-scale restaurants that serve up the best in local Miyazaki cuisine.

The Ocean Dome is only one part of the Sheraton Seagaia Resort, which except for the obvious hotel (Sheraton Grande Ocean Resort), also has tennis courts as well as golf courses on the premises, and there is even a zoo nearby. The zoo does keep an impressive collection of animals, ranging from ring-tailed lemurs to indian wood storks.

Miyazaki is only a breath away by plane, 1 hour 30 minutes from Tokyo’s Haneda Airport and 1 hour 5 minutes from Kansai International Airport. Buses to Seagaia leave from Miyazaki Airport as well as from the JR Miyazaki station, and take less than 30 minutes. Legoland California (USA)

Legoland California is a theme park located in Carlsbad, California, focused on Lego bricks. It opened on March 20, 1999. It is the third Legoland park to open, and the first Legoland outside of Europe. The park is split into nine major sections which are: The Beginning, Dino Island, Duplo, Village Green, Fun Town, Castle Hill, Miniland USA, Pirate Shores, Imagination Zone, and Land of Adventure. The theme park features a water park and is the only Legoland to feature a water park.

In Dino Island, a mini steel roller coaster called the "Coastersaurus" curves and dips around giant models of Lego dinosaurs. Visitors can dig for imitation dinosaur bones in the "Dig Those Dinos" attraction.

Duplo includes the "Water Works" attraction, which has dozens of interactive water activities and is directly beside "Musical Fountain" where visitors hop up and down to make music play and water blow. A water ride called "Fairy Tale Brook" lets visitors ride a boat down a river lined with Lego models based on fairy tales. Playtown is a play area complete with Lego buildings, slides, and activities. There is a playground, pizza parlor, and a ride called "Safari Trek" which allows the rider to see many life sized Lego models of animals. There are two attractions on the top of a hill. First is the "Kid Power Towers", in which a pair of people pulls themselves to the top of a rotating tower to enjoy the slow ride down. Guests can go up and down as many or as few times as per their whim before the ride ends. When visitors board another attraction- the "Sky Cruiser"- two people pedal in tandem around a track to see a large portion of the park.

Fun Town features two "driving schools" where children can learn to drive electric Lego cars on a closed course. There are two courses; one is a simple circuit - 3 to 5 year olds can enjoy there. The other one can allow from 6 to 13 year old children, features working traffic lights. Visitors can also take a tour of a Lego factory to learn how Lego bricks are made. At the "Fire Academy", families battle other families in a race down a street to douse a small "fire" and drive back in the fire truck- all using hand pumps. Guests who board "Flight Squadron" are raised into the air by Lego airplanes and those who visit "Sky Patrol" will experience the same feeling as "Flight Squadron" with the exception of being in a Lego helicopter, as they are moved up and down to see the extensive view of Legoland. Fun Town also has a "Skipper School" where parents and kids can pilot Lego boats.

Castle Hill is a medieval castle-themed area. Its main attraction is the "Dragon", a roller coaster that slowly tours a castle, until a lego wizard casts a spell to open the doors to the outside, at which point the coaster speeds up and the ride functions as a regular coaster. Another ride is the "Knights' Tournament", in which guests ride around on a very large robotic arm, selecting levels from one to five - one and two do not go upside down, and five rarely has guests right side-up. The "Hideaways" is designed for younger children, and is a large multi-level wooden play structure with slides, rope ladders, and bridges. Small horses at the "Royal Joust" take guests ages 4–12 through a mock medieval joust. Recently added was a miniature golf course that replaced the popular "rock band" or "singing rock garden". The rock's original recording can still be heard on holes 12-18 on the course. Llamas are featured on the hill.

Miniland USA includes miniature dioramas of seven areas of the United States, altogether built with over 40 million LEGO bricks in 1:20 scale and took 3 years to finish. The major cities are viewable from various areas in the park. From the Coast Cruise ride, one can see some mini models otherwise hidden from view, such as the Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower. Miniland is also home to the Model Shop, the main design and builds office for LEGOLAND California's two Master Model Builders. A large viewing window at the front allows guests to watch the builders at work, usually on new models for the park.

In the Imagination Zone, visitors can ride a Wild Mouse-style roller coaster called the "Technic Coaster-Test Track"(formally Project X), choose from three different "4-D" movies called "Bob the Builder", "Spellbreaker", and "Clutch Powers". Kids can also race Lego cars that they build themselves in Build 'n Test, play the "Maniac Challenge" in which guests play LEGO PC games, and program robots in "Mindstorms". Guests can also ride on "Bionicle Blaster", which is a version of the teacup ride, or the "Aquazone Wave Racers", the first ever duel water carousel. In that you get use a steering wheel to control a rudder that makes you either come in closer to the center or fly out through the waves, all the while being squirted with water by the bystanders.

Pirate Shores has 6 rides and attractions. "Splash Battle" is a ride where guests enter their very own pirate ships to do battle with other guests on the ride and on land also while trying to avoid on-ride blasts of water. "Soak 'N Sail" is an interactive two-story water playground. Children and adults play with water pouring down all around them, for example, there are two buckets filled with 500 gallons of water that pour water on unsuspecting people. "Treasure Falls"; the mini-log flume, is a great training ride for little riders that aren't quite ready for the bigger log rides at other parks. "Swabbie's Deck" is the little kids water area, for little kids from infant all the way up to 7 or 8 to get their feet wet, before attempting Soak and Sail. "Captain Cranky's Challenge" is the newest ride for Pirate Shores that opened on May 24, 2007.

Land of Adventure is the newest section of the theme park, which is designed to replicate the 1920s in Egypt. "Pharaoh's Revenge" involves guests firing foam balls at targets and at each other. On "Beetle Bounce" guests bounce nearly 15 feet to nearly touch the enormous beetles above. "Cargo Ace", lets guests board one of eight planes to fly six feet into the air. "Lost Kingdom Adventure" is Legoland California's most recent attraction. Guests board and ride a roadster to recover stolen treasure by blasting targets with laser guns along their journey. Another recently opened attraction is "Dune Raiders", which is a slide.

Legoland Water Park is opened on May 28, 2010. It is located next to the buildings in Fun Town. It is the only Legoland which features a waterpark. It is not possible to buy a separate admission ticket solely for the water park. The official website is http://california.legoland.com/

Canada Wonderland (Canada)

Canada's Wonderland is a 330-acre (130 ha) amusement park located in Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, a suburb directly north of Toronto. The park is open seasonally from May to October and contains more than 200 attractions (including side stall and redemption games and video arcades) in eight differently themed areas. It opened in 1981 and was Canada's first major theme park and is still today the largest and most popular theme park in Canada. Under the ownership of Paramount Parks from 1994 to 2006, it was known as Paramount Canada's Wonderland. When sold to Cedar Fair in 2007, the park reverted to its original name.

The park has been the most attended seasonal theme park in North America for several years in the 2000s. With 16 roller coasters, Wonderland also has more roller coasters in a park anywhere outside of the United States, and tied with Cedar Point for the second most roller coasters in the world. Today, Canada's Wonderland has over 200 attractions, with over 60 thrill rides. The park encompasses eight themed areas on 330 acres of land, with an artificial mountain as the central feature. In the southwestern quadrant, a 20 acres waterpark called Splash Works has over 2 million US gallons of heated water, Canada's largest outdoor wave pool, measuring 36,000 square feet , a lazy river, and 16 water slides.

The park has several themed areas. The four original sections are: International Street, Medieval Faire, Grande World Exposition of 1890 (now Action Zone), and the Happyland of Hanna-Barbera (divided into 2 kids areas now). The current areas include the original sections and White Water Canyon (1984), Splash Works (1992), and children's areas including Kidzville (1998), Zoom Zone (2001) and Planet Snoopy (2010).

International Street is the park's entry area, similar to the Main Street, U.S.A. sections of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. Using a format borrowed from Kings Island and Kings Dominion, both sides of the street are lined with shops, including souvenir shops, clothing stores, restaurants, and candy stores. Wonder Mountain, the park's centrepiece, appears at the end of the street. In early decades, stores sold high-quality imported goods, themed to the buildings, and restaurants sold unlikely foods for a theme park, such as shrimp, paella, and smoked sausage. The buildings are named the Latin, Scandinavian, Mediterranean, and Alpine Buildings. International Festival is located in the northeast section of the park and is home to fourteen games and six rides. International Festival is most notable for its midway games.

Action Zone was originally The Grande World Exposition of 1890 and is one of the original four themed areas at Wonderland. It was made to resemble an old world's fair, with expositions from different countries, focusing on African and Asian themes. The restaurants and bathrooms were formerly true to the exposition theme. One of the restaurants was called Ginza Gardens (now The Backlot Cafe) and had a Japanese theme and a Japanese façade. There is also an arcade area within this section of the park. The Mighty Canadian Minebuster, one of the original four roller coasters, is on the outskirts of the Action Zone and was intended to be the centrepiece of the never-built Frontier Canada. In 2002, Action Zone was created as a new themed area within the Grande World Exposition of 1890. However, the entire area was later renamed Action Zone.

The Medieval Faire section of the park has a medieval European theme in both the setting and the rides.The stores and restaurants follow the medieval theme, as does the castle theatre (Wonderland Theatre, originally Canterbury Theatre) and a pirate show in the middle of the lake. Wonderland Theatre hosted ice shows from 2006 to 2011, and will host Cirque Ambiente.

Cedar Point (USA)

 Cedar Point is a 364-acre amusement park located on a Lake Erie peninsula in Sandusky, Ohio, United States. Opened in 1870, it is the second oldest operating amusement park in the United States behind Lake Compounce. The park is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company and features a world record 74 rides including 16 roller coasters. Known as "America's Roller Coast", Cedar Point is currently tied with Canada's Wonderland for the second most roller coasters in a park.Cedar Point's normal operating season runs daily from mid-May until Labor Day and then on weekends through the end of October.

Today it is home to some of the tallest, fastest rides in the world including Top Thrill Dragster and Millenium Force which are considered by many to be the best feeling in the world.  All up it contains more than 75 rides. The park has reached several milestones such as becoming the only amusement park in the world with four roller coasters taller than 200 feet (61 m) - Magnum XL-200, Millennium Force, Wicked Twister, and Top Thrill Dragster - as well as being the only park with roller coasters in all four height classifications. Cedar Point has also received the Golden Ticket Award for "Best Amusement Park in the World" from Amusement Today for the past fourteen years.

Although its primary attraction is the assortment of coasters, the park has rides and other attractions, including kiddie rides, water rides, a traditional arcade, award-winning musical shows, and a PEANUTS-themed ice skating show, etc. The park also offers access to the lovely beach on Lake Erie -- something which has been attracting visitors since its inception.

Two separate attractions are part of Cedar Point but not included in the general admission. Soak City is an outdoor water park; Castaway Bay is an elaborate indoor waterpark. Challenge Park features four attractions: 'Ripcord,' 'Skyscraper,' 'Challenge Racing' go kart tracks, and 'Challenge Golf', a fantasy miniature golf course.

Cedar Point owns and operates six resorts located either on park grounds or less than a mile away. All facilities are non-smoking and all Cedar Point Resort guests are able to take advantage of the early entry to the park. Guests may arrive one hour early to the park to enjoy the park before the general public each morning.

Inside this Ohio amusement park location there are great live shows for all ages. The Palace Theater in Frontiertown and The Red Garter Saloon on Frontier Trail are both live entertainment venues as is the Centennial Theater near the main entryway.

For the majority of the time during the summer it's open from 10:00am to 10:00pm from the end of May toward the end of August. When to go would be during the summer months from May through to October. The best time for the waterparks is June, July and August. Entry rates vary as well with many packages available. Check ticket prices but the best rate is the 4-ticket value pack for $130.00. Soak City, Challenge Park and Castaway Bay are additional and ticket options and rates vary. Islands of Adventure (USA)

Universal's Islands of Adventure is a theme park located in Orlando, Florida. It opened May 28, 1999 as part of an expansion that, along with CityWalk Entertainment District, the Portofino Bay Hotel, and Hard Rock hotel, converted Universal Studios Florida into the Universal Orlando Resort. The park's overall theme is that of a journey of exploration, where guests depart from a main port to visit six islands, each having its own distinct theme, but all emphasizing adventure.

Like Universal Studios Florida next door, Islands of Adventure has not limited itself to Universal's own library. In fact, with the exception of The Lost Continent and Jurassic Park, the remaining park areas are based on characters licensed from rival studios, many of whom did not own theme parks of their own. Some of these include Seuss Landing (Dr. Seuss Enterprises), The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (Warner Bros.), Toon Lagoon (Jay Ward Productions and Paramount Pictures) and Marvel Super Hero Island (Marvel Entertainment, a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Company).

Islands of Adventure consist of seven themed "islands," only one of which utilizes movie tie-ins with Universal Pictures. They are, in clockwise order from entry, Port of Entry, Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon, Jurassic Park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, The Lost Continent, and Seuss Landing.

Port of Entry is the park's main entrance and is home to many shops and services, including Guest Relations. The park's iconic centerpiece, Pharos Lighthouse, is also located within Port of Entry. Each night, this real, functioning lighthouse sends out a bright beam to lead visitors to and from the park's gates. Its main features are the Confisco Grille restaurant and the Islands of Adventure Trading Company, the park's primary gift shop. An attraction information board is located near the shore of the lagoon.

Marvel Super Hero Island has rides inspired by Marvel comic books, and focuses primarily on thrilling rides. The island features such Marvel characters as Wolverine, Captain America, Spider-Man, The Incredible Hulk, and some villains such as Doctor Doom, M.O.D.O.K., Hobgoblin, and Kingpin.

Toon Lagoon is geared toward both kids and adults, and is based on the characters of King Features Syndicate and Jay Ward. The area focuses on water-based rides and features 3 counter-service restaurants: Comic Strip Cafe, Blondies, and Wimpy's & All On Mulberry Street. The Island is rigged with dozens of water props that squirt at visitors and can be interacted with if so desired. In addition, visitors have the option of further soaking those who are riding on board water rides by squirting them with water guns, activating water cannons, and more.

Set just after the time of the Jurassic Park movie. The area has some thrilling rides and has discovery-based exhibits. The characters of John Hammond and Ian Malcolm even put in an appearance from time to time. The Island takes place under the guise of the "real" Jurassic Park: a theme park / zoological park focused on dinosaurs. As such, the area is filled with the attractions and exhibits one would find in the "real" Jurassic Park.

The Lost Continent is themed to ancient myths and legends, and is divided into two smaller sections. The first section is ancient Arabian marketplace called "Sinbad's Bazzaar", while the second is mythological Grecian-Atlantis-style "Lost City". Today the area contains two live-action shows.

Seuss Landing is specially geared towards small children and is based on the works of author Dr. Seuss. It has several Seuss-themed attractions. There is also a Green Eggs and Ham Cafe and Circus McGurkus restaurant. One of the unique characteristics of this area is, like in the books, there is not a single straight line anywhere. Palm trees, curved by the winds of Hurricane Andrew, were even installed in the area to continue this teeming.

Officially opened to the public on June 18, 2010.  The 20-acre island features attractions, shops and restaurants set inside such locations as the Forbidden Forest, Hogsmeade Village and the iconic Hogwarts castle. The official website for Islands of Adventure is http://www.universalorlando.com
